Thursday March 6, 2008 - Day 46

Willie called last night to check in. He is doing well. We had satellite phone issues and could not really catch up. We will try again today. As soon as I hear from him, and have an update of this past week, I will post it. Thank you for reading!

I did have news to tell Willie. I told him to sit down and brace himself...BRETT FAVRE RETIRED...a sad day out there for Willie I am sure...

Hi Christine-

Not sure if you have been in touch with Brad E about raod plowing but I thought you should know they are starting tomorrow (9th) and are planning to quickly head west. Willie may want to alter his departure from Toklat so that he can stay the full 70 days. Otherwise he will be running into plowing much west of HQ.

Christine and Willie, the Alaska Studies students are reading the blog every week. They have had most of their questions answered as Willie goes along, but this week they submitted a few different ones.
"Like how you said you felt like a king when hiking the mountains, do you feel like that every new day you wake up? "
"Is the trip so fun that you would rather just stay out there or are you starting to get a little bit home sick?"
and "If you could go on this trip again is their anything you would bring differently?"
The wildlife track sightings, and the wolf stories are the most interesting to the students. Thanks so much for making this experience available to students.

Hi Karen, Sonja & Fred!
Karen, thank you for thinking of Willie. I called Brad last night & he gave me the low down. I will tell Willie, as soon as we get a good connection on the phone. Thanks for this important info!
Sonja & Class, Thanks for the email & I will get answers from Willie- again as soon as the phone lets us!
Fred, Hey you! :)
Cheers, Christine

Hello Alaska Studies Class! Willie answered your questions. #1)(king?) He said, "Yes and more so. Since I was young I've always been a person who strives for happiness. This journey helped me to see the beauty, simplicity, balance of each day- and how lucky I am to experience it". #2)(homesick?) "I have found a place where I feel at home and it is treating me kindly. I'm comfortable here & found that I enjoy the solitude. But I don't love the solitude, not even close, to how much I love Christine"(I KNOW SAPPY!) "Which has been the biggest challenge of the trip. I love each day, but will love being back home. And OH YEAH, I miss pizza & ice cream!" #3)(bring differently?)"No- nothing else...I would have liked to have had all my gear out there already. So all I had to do was ski out & bring my cooking stuff with me to travel out". I hope this answered the questions for you. Have a great day there, and Happy Spring Break! Christine
